What are eyelash extensions?

Not to be confused with the temporary self stick strip ’falsies’, eyelash extensions are semi permanent silk fibre extensions that are glued on, one by one, to the natural lash (not the skin).

How long do they last?

A real lash’s life cycle is around 25-28 days, and as yours grow and fall out, so will the extension. Lifestyle and after care also have an impact.

We recommend clients return every 2 to 4 weeks for in-fills, as natural lashes shed periodically according to the growth cycle.

How are eyelash extensions applied?

A single natural eyelash is isolated and a synthetic lash is glued to the top of your own natural eyelash, approximately 1mm from the eyelid, so neither glue nor the lash has contact with the skin.

How long does the application take?

Because we attach an extension to every natural lash the procedure can take up to 2 hours. It is a meticulous procedure that requires patience and concentration so therefore it should not be rushed. You relax with your eyes closed and there is no pain. Often clients fall asleep it is so relaxing. In-fills take approximately 1hour.

What are in-fills, why and how often do I need them?

In-fills are when the natural eyelash has fallen out (due to the eyelash growth cycle) and the extension has been attached to it. You will require in-fills approximately every 2-4 weeks to maintain a consistently full set of fresh lashes. In-fills take approximately 1 hour.

Do eyelash extensions make my own lashes fall out?

Definitely not, this is a myth... Although it is important to have your lashes applied by a qualified operator who uses a quality product. The eyelash has a growth cycle, just like hair and is constantly being replaced, so your extensions will fall out just like natural eyelashes.

Can I still wear makeup?

Yes, but you won’t need mascara on your top lashes. Eyelash extensions make your lashes look like you are wearing mascara 24/7 without the clumping, streaking and smudging. You may find they give your eyes such a lift you no longer need much eye shadow or liner, however, when wearing eye makeup remember to remove it with an oil free eye makeup remover.

Can lashes be tinted?
Natural lashes can be tinted prior to the application of Eyelash extensions.

Are eyelash extensions suitable for everyone?
Anyone can have eyelash extensions applied as long as there is a natural lash to glue the extension onto. Ladies who have undergone chemotherapy and their lashes are starting to grow back love having eyelash extensions, as do contact lenses and glasses wearers. Most models, actresses and celebrities have eyelash extensions applied as part of their regular grooming routine.

How do I look after my eyelash extensions?

  • For the first 12 hours avoid getting the lashes wet to allow the glue to completely dry

  • Do not shower or wash your face for 2 hours after application, or use a steam room or sauna for first 48 hours

  • Be gentle with your new lashes. No rubbing, tugging or scratching your eyes

  • Resist the temptation to touch or pull at your stunning new lashes as this will pull out your natural lashes that the extensions are attached to.

  • When drying face, do not rub. Instead blot your face and apply a gentle pressure to your closed eyes, allowing the extensions to dry naturally. Do not dry with at towel or hair dryer

  • Do not use eye makeup removers that contain oil or oil by products. Dermalogica Soothing Eye Makeup Remover is ideal.

  • Do keep the area clean and carefully brush lashes into place with an old mascara brush on a daily basis

  • Do not use any mascara on top of these lashes. The ingredients in the mascara affect the bond of the glue and thus shorten the life of the lashes.

  • Should you get eye shadow on them, just wet a cotton bud with water and glide over the lashes.

  • Avoid soapy/oily products and cleansers around the eyes. Eye creams, makeup removers and facial moisturizers containing oils or solvents will cause lashes to come loose. Use eye creams sparingly and avoid lash/lid area.
